Short Bench a Challenge for Hornets
The Sr AA Hornets had a pair of rare weeknight games that resulted in limited player availability this week.
Facing the Guelph Gryphons Monday, a scrappy group of nine skaters took a lead on a goal by Jessica Prevette (5) but Guelph battled back to tie it. In the third period Giova Cascioli (9) regained the lead but late in the game the Gryphons gained the equalizer for the 2-2 tie.
With a squad reinforced by three capable affiliated players - Nicole Turczyniak, Bridget McLellan and Kaitlyn Norris, the Hornets faced rival St. Catharines and found themselves two goals down by mid game. A strong second period led to a goal by Cascioli (10) which closed the gap but constant speed and pressure limited Oakville's shots even with the goalie pulled and St. Catharines prevailed 2-1.
