High Performance Program - coaching appointments 2021/2022
Submitted By Hornets on Sunday, November 15, 2020
The Oakville Hornets are pleased to announce our High Performance Program (HPP) coaching team for our 25th year!

Junior Hornets - Stacey McConnell ✉️
U18 AA - Leon Petersen ✉️
U15 AA - Kevin Gordon ✉️
U13 AA - Kevin Kemp ✉️

Please join us in welcoming Leon to the Hornets organisation to lead the U18 AA program! We are grateful and excited for Kevin Gordon to join the High Performance Program to head up U15 AA and for Stacey and Kevin to return as coaches for our Junior Hornets and U13 AA programs.

Our current U18 AA coach Gerry Bouwman will be transitioning to the role of HPP Director and will be involved in all aspects of our HPP program including support for our coaches.

At this time we have also opened our application form for rep coaches for the 2021/2022 season.

Coaching Bio Leon Petersen:

Leon grew up played minor hockey in the MTHL (now called the GTHL) and was a multi sport athlete at the Rep levels for Soccer and Baseball. This passion for sports led to jobs with the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs as a young adult.

Leon has been involved with female hockey for the past 9 years in a variety of roles and understands the commitment of being involved in High Performance girls hockey. Leon coached the Hamilton U15 AA team for the past few years and has been an Executive member with Hamilton ending as the Vice President of the Rep Division. He has been the head coach in various age groups at the rep level and at AA divisions as a parent coach and volunteer non-parent coach. Leon is an HP1 certified coach, and working towards getting his HP2 certification.

He is a father of children who have been through the rep levels and understands coaching and parenting of rep level athletes.

Leon is a perfect role model and coach for the HPP program in Oakville.

Hisphilosophy is pretty simple. Using some classic hockey clichés:

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”

“Play like you’re in first, train like you’re in second.

“Heart is the difference between those who attempt and those who achieve.”

His goal is to develop good people through coaching and help them grow with their entry into the world of today. Any good life lesson needs to be shared and Leon develops hockey players and good kids!!

He looks forward to sharing and growing with the collegial coaching philosophies of the HPP program, while we are excited to see what new ideas he can offer our programs.
